I have yet to actually meet Aaron but I’d like to some day. My wife just told me about his blog. He’s starting his first year as a teacher at Quisqueya Christian School and I think that what he wrote illustrates so eloquently the needs that kids in Haiti have.
I need to talk with this guy some time and we all need to pray for these kids and the teachers who teach them……..
They All Have a Story | Mosaic Village
For the last couple of days I’ve been in teacher orientation.
We’re getting ready for the new school year that begins in one week.
People are busy getting their rooms ready and preparing lessons. But each day we start in a meeting with all the teachers and the school director.
Yesterday, Steve (the director) reminded us of the fact that we’ll all have classes full of kids who’ve lived through trauma like most people can’t imagine.
There will be kids who lost their houses in the earthquake.
There will be kids who lost their best friend in the earthquake.
There will be kids who lost one or both parents in the earthquake. That sounds bad enough.
But when you start hearing actual details for those stories, they become darker than most of us can imagine. Some of these kids were under rubble for days before they were rescued.
One student was trapped under rubble for 5 days … next to her dead mother. Not every kid has a story that traumatic.
But every kid has a story. There’s just no way for these kids to have fully dealt with all that they saw and experienced 7 months ago.
These are the kids we’ll be teaching this year.
Please pray for these kids.
Pray for me and the other teachers.
Pray that God would bring healing to many students this year.
