AlongSideHaiti is a Christian organization, based on principles from the Bible. While not every AlongSideHaiti partner will necessarily share this perspective, the support offered will be consistent with the values expressed in the following biblical quotes:
James 1:27 Real religion, the kind that passes muster before God the Father, is this: Reach out to the homeless and loveless in their plight, and guard against corruption from the godless world.
Psalm 72:4 Please stand up for the poor, help the children of the needy.
Mark 10:14 The disciples shooed them off. But Jesus was irate and let them know it: “Don’t push these children away. Don’t ever get between them and me. These children are at the very center of life in the kingdom.
Isaiah 1:17 Learn to do good. Work for justice. Help the down-and-out. Stand up for the homeless. Go to bat for the defenseless.
John 3:16-17 This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.
17God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again.

I agree that they need help, and I have actively helped too. I have been to Haiti, been involved with a mission, and adopted from Haiti. My heart is with the children and country of Haiti. However, one of the biggest problems that Haiti has is Haiti itself — its orphans are a big industry. They (orphans) bring in missions, supplies, tons of money from paperwork, give people jobs, missions hire locals, start schools, and feeding programs, reach out to the communities around, bring modern equiptment, restore housing, teach skills, etc. In other words, Haiti doesn’t want to loose one of its biggest supports for its country – orphans. Things have to change internally before there will be lasting results where Haiti will actually start to become independent of outside help. I know now that the disasters have changed much of what I am saying for now, they definetly need outside help to get on their feet, but in the long run somehow Haitian thinking and priorities need to change, and they need to consider their children their future, and not a money making industry.
